Sunburn causes premature wrinkling and greater risk of cancer but home remedies can provide pain relief for mild cases at home.

Take vitamin E and vitamin C diet

Antioxidants like vitamin E and vitamin C are very helpful in curing sunburn. Hence include vitamin E and vitamin C in your diet. Tomato is a good antioxidant. Eat good quality protein foods like meat, egg, fish, chicken and so on. Eat lots of fruits. They will supply essential vitamins and minerals. To keep the body hydrated and compensate for the lost fluids, drink lots of fluids.

Summer sunshine and playing outdoors go together but if we don’t follow certain guidelines, we can pay the price with painful sunburn. The pain of sunburn may last up to a week but will be worst between six and forty-eight hours of sun exposure. Injured layers of skin will peel away in three to ten days but the damage will remain.

Make a paste of one Bayer-type aspirin (crushed), aloe vera gel, and vitamin A & D cream from a tube. Mix it together crushing up the aspirin as much as possible to have the large pieces crushed into small grains, as smooth a paste as you can make. I use the back part of a spoon to crush and smooth paste. Place on sunburn and cover up with old clothing. It will make the blisters go down and absorb the redness and the pain goes away also. Miracle cure!

Use a sunscreen with a sun protection factor ( SPF ) of 15 or higher. Apply to the skin  whenever you go outside or ride in the car, apply it to all exposed areas 30′ before going outside, repeating the procedure as often as possible, specially if you are swimming or perspiring. Make sure you buy a sunscreen that contains protection against both UVA and UVB rays.

Be soothed by vegetables. Boil some lettuce in water, then strain it and let the liquid cool for a few hours in the refrigerator before applying it to your skin with cotton balls, recommends Lia Schorr, a New York City skin care specialist and author of Lia Schorr’s Seasonal Skin Care.

Cold water. Use either plain water from the faucet or add a few ice cubes, says Arizona dermatologist Michael Schreiber, M.D., senior clinical lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dip a cloth into the liquid and lay it over the burn. Repeat every few minutes as the cloth warms. Apply several times a day for a total of 10 to 15 minutes each.
