Fever blisters (cold sores) are red blisters filled with fluid in the areas around the mouth, gums, or lips. Fever blisters appearance is triggered after a person had fever, colds, fatigue, stress, exposure to the sun, menstruation, and other respiratory infection.Cold sores (fever blisters) usually appear with a cold. These are painful fluid-filled small red blisters (bubbles) that appear in the areas of lips, nose, and outer edges of mouth.

Home Remedies for Fever Blisters

If you are someone who frequently gets fever blisters or cold sores, try applying fingernail polish remover every few minutes (it dries quickly) when you are aware of an upcoming outbreak. This sounds extreme (it will not burn unless the sore is advanced), but I have used this treatment for years and apply it with an eye drop bottle and it totally stops the virus from growing into a sore. If you don’t catch it until it becomes a blister, simply use a clean needle to puncture the blister an apply the remover until it appears to halt the growing process and use Abreva until the sore has healed.

Place a small amount of salt on the cold sore and hold it in place with your finger for a minute or two. This may be painful but it is one of the quickest ways to heal cold sores.

Take a few ice cubes and rub them on the cold sore affected area for a few minutes. Take a warm tea bag and apply it on the fever blisters for about half an hour. Apply Aloe Vera gel on the sores. Lemon balm extract is considered valuable in healing Herpes infection. This is one of the best home remedies for fever blisters.

Mild sweating: this helps to digest the toxins. Lie on a bed covered with a blanket, for 15 to 20 minutes. Drinking a hot liquid also helps.

Applying Witch Hazel on sores will give you some relief. Dip your moist index finger in powdered common salt and press the sore for 30 seconds using this index finger. Gently rub aloe vera gel or oil on the sores. Lemon balm extract helps to reduce symptoms and speeds up healing. Those having weak immune system will take more time to recover and may face more severe consequences.

Use Echinacea and goldenseal extract mixture. Echinacea is an immune system booster that can also prevent a cold sore outbreak. Take one dropper-full a day for no more than 3 days. Also put a few drops on a cotton ball and place on the affected area for a few minutes several times a day.

Take 10 grams (one-tablespoon) raisins and 10 grams (one tablespoon) fresh ginger. Crush and put in 200-ml. water for one hour. Boil this decoction till the water reduces to 50 ml. Strain and drink while warm. These are the useful and simple home remedies for fever blisters.
